Summary¶
Voted for Trump. Wife Deported on Their Honeymoon.
Bradley Bartell, a Wisconsin Trump voter, had his Peruvian wife Camila Muñoz detained by ICE agents at the airport as they returned from their honeymoon in Puerto Rico. She was deported to Peru. Despite losing his wife to the policies he voted for, Bartell initially said he didn't regret his vote.
What Happened¶
Bradley Bartell and Camila Muñoz were returning from their honeymoon in Puerto Rico — a U.S. territory — in March 2025. ICE agents stopped the couple at the airport.
Muñoz had overstayed her original visa but:
- Had been married to Bartell for two years
- Was caring for Bartell's 12-year-old son
- Had applied for her green card
- Worked on a W-2 contract
- Paid her taxes
None of it mattered. She was detained and subsequently deported to Peru.
The Voter¶
Bartell voted for Donald Trump, believing the enforcement would target criminals — not his wife, who had done everything right except arrive with the wrong paperwork.
His Response
"He didn't create the system, but he does have an opportunity to improve it. Hopefully, all this attention will bring to light how broken it is."
Initially, Bartell told media he did not regret his vote for Trump, even as his wife sat in detention. He faced intense public backlash, with many saying "you deserve this."
He has since considered moving to Peru if his wife cannot return.
What This Case Proves¶
-
The machine doesn't care about your paperwork. Green card application filed. W-2 employment. Tax payments. Marriage to a citizen. Caregiving for an American child. The machine processed her anyway.
-
Puerto Rico is a trap. Flying within U.S. territory triggered an immigration checkpoint. Muñoz was in America, going to America, and got deported for it.
-
Loyalty earns nothing. Bartell voted for Trump. The administration deported his wife on their honeymoon. His initial refusal to regret his vote shows how deep the programming runs.
